The Good:

This news story I found particularly interesting. 'Hacker Scouts", the name of the extra curricular activity discussed in this video, is helping children and teenagers not only explore and create new technology but learn so much more then I would have ever though children could learn at ages as young as 8. These children are working together with a group of mentors to create technology based items. Children work on creating small computers that are used in various projects, or electrical based projects that involve an immense amount of science and art skills. The children are also building confidence in themselves, building friendships, and learning the behind the scenes of how technology is built and works. The reward for the children is to create their own badges on a laser printer. This is completely showing the good in technology. There is learning, self-confidence, and friendships being built through this program which are all things children need to build on growing up.
The Bad:

Many assume technology is bad for the brain because of many different aspects. This video cast is explaining how the screens of technology items such as computers, ipads, and televisions are causing more problems then in previous years to children growing up today. This is showing the bad side that technology is having on out world today. It is causing children to have to go to the doctors more for eye exams and routine check ups to make sure their vision and health is okay. This is all happening because of technology. In past years there were not as many vision problems and checks ups needed for children, now doctors are recommending more frequent visits because of the rise in technology.
The Ugly:

Watching this video cast is sickening and extremely hard to watch. This shows the ugly side of the technological world and how social media is horrible, espeically for teens. These boys raped a girl and exploited videos of them joking, harassing, and thinking that the rape was funny all over social media sites. Although the boys were convicted for this, it does not change the fact that this girl was not only raped but the videos of it and post rape were platered all over the internet. This is showing how the internet can not only harm someone physically but also ruin social lives and cause jail time for many. Teens today, and many others older, think that everything should be posted on social media sites. We are shown by this video, that things posted online can cause horrible horrible harm to many people.

PrePaid Phones 3B
Growing up, my first phone was a prepaid phone. I bought it
for myself in sixth grade with my parent’s permission and paid for the minutes
all by myself. This taught me responsibility and also made my mom realize that
she needed to be able to communicate with me when I was not home or with her.
This being said, I am all for prepaid phones.
As far as criminal activity is concerned, this is a good way to stay off the radar. I think that using prepaid phones for crimes can issue, but you really do not hear all that much about it. If the government restricted the selling of these phones or even banned them many citizens would be upset. There are countless amounts of people who use a prepaid phone because of bad credit, contracts, and they simply find it easier. Parents may feel the same way I do that it teaches responsibility, banning it would restrict the teaching of technology responsibility to a child in a technological age. I do not think that they should be banned. They are a very great invention and use for many people around the country.

Location Tracking 3B
Location tracking on animals I think is one of
the greatest ideas that they have come up with. Many animals are lost today and
flyers and ads really do not do much. The chip is an easy way to locate the
animal if they have run off. I for one have them in my dogs. Many rescue leagues now put them in all animals they get in or require you to sign a contract saying you will get one put in when adopting.
Putting it in a human is a completely different story. Humans are very different from animals. Putting a tracking device in a human will take more risks. Risks associated with this could be going under the knife for the first time or to many times and having complications that result. If you have previous existing health problems that can also be factored in to the risks of implanting something new and foreign to your body. If the doctor is new with the chips or places it incorrectly that could also cause long-term effects. Humans can communicate unlike animals. I understand that kidnapping is happening a lot these days but it is not common enough to have to implant a chip. If an elderly person has severe Alzheimer’s where they will walk off then they need to have a care taker at all times. People are looking for jobs these days and that would be a well paying job that would not have life threatening risks. The older you get the harder surgeries become. Implanting a chip into a human for a tracking device is a horrible idea. We can attach it to clothing or phones but not implanting
