Growing up, my first phone was a prepaid phone. I bought it
for myself in sixth grade with my parent’s permission and paid for the minutes
all by myself. This taught me responsibility and also made my mom realize that
she needed to be able to communicate with me when I was not home or with her.
This being said, I am all for prepaid phones.
As far as criminal activity is concerned, this is a good way to stay off the radar. I think that using prepaid phones for crimes can issue, but you really do not hear all that much about it. If the government restricted the selling of these phones or even banned them many citizens would be upset. There are countless amounts of people who use a prepaid phone because of bad credit, contracts, and they simply find it easier. Parents may feel the same way I do that it teaches responsibility, banning it would restrict the teaching of technology responsibility to a child in a technological age. I do not think that they should be banned. They are a very great invention and use for many people around the country.

I agree and feel that if the government where to ban these types of phones they would inconvenience so many more people than the overall benefit of banning these phones in the first place. Also if they were to make you register the phone so it can be linked to you, that also would inconvenience people as well.
ReplyDeleteAlso I never thought about how these phones could tech kids responsibility with technology and with paying for something their selves. I thought that was interesting and I did not think of that.
I think using pre-paid phones to teach kids responsibility with technology is a great idea. I would think it would make them appreciate the value of the technology even more. I would hope the government would not ban them but perhaps find a way to register them to cut down on their illegal use.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alyssa, pre paid phones definitely teach kids responsibility. If pre paid phones were banned, parents would not have the opportunity to teach their child this lesson. There are many advantages too for having pre paid phones and that would not be fair to take those away because of a criminal. Pre paid phones are definitely something that must not be banned.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, prepaid phones do teach kids responsibility with phones and there are plenty of other people who use prepaid phones legitimately. You can't take away the rights of everyone just because of some bad people.
